Protect the Whales!

Dear Friends,
As you all know, Apnea australia is a huge supporter of whale conservation.
through all of those year of working in the water and interacting with marine mammals, we feel we have a huge commitment to help protect and conserve this beautiful habitat.
As we are there to enjoy it, we would like the next generations to be able to still be able to swim in pristine water, full of life.
We are terribly sad and horrified by the holocaust of whaling in some countries that still consider themselves as civilised countries.
We feel strongly about the need to get involved and become activists against whaling and in the protection of the whales worldwide.
Those are not clichés - every voice can make a difference.
Please put your voice up for the whales, for the oceans, for the future.

The kingdom of Tonga in the Pacific is one of the two places on earth where you can swim and freeDive with Humpback whales.

Apnea Australia specializes in FreeDiving expeditions and we are excited  to offer you the chance to come and train / swim / Play with the whales in the pristine waters of Tonga.IMG_9205

In 2012, Expeditions are held during August and September and are 10 days long. Longer trips can also be organised upon request.

The FreeDiving

Tonga has clear, deep, warm water year-round. The Tongan trench is only a few hundred meters from the beach and provides great conditions for beginners and advanced Freedivers alike.

We offer 7 days of training / course for the non certified Freedivers. We provide floats, counter-weight system for the deep dives, safety, boats and more.

The Island

The Haa'pai group is the middle island group of Tonga and offers the perfect combination of Deep, clear water, Great accommodation, good food and private, endless beaches.

The whales are in abundance and there are very few operators. This allowes for a much more "ecological" and personal experience.

Along with the Humpback experience We we offer FreeDive training and courses with other activities such as Freediving in the Caves, The Arch (longest arch in the pacific), Nature walks, camping, surfing, paddle-boarding Volcano treks and more.

The Humpbacks

Eua-WhalesHumpback whales grow to around 15m in length and are renowned as the whales with the longest pectoral fins. The have a complexed song and communication system that travels extremely long distances and that will vibrate every bone in your body when you swim near them.

The whales migrate to Tonga every year between July and October to give birth and play in the warm tropical water. They exhibit amazing displays of fin and tail slapping along with the famous Breach where they jump clear out of the water!

Tonga allows snorkellers and freedivers to approach the whales and interact with them. The whales will decide weather to come close or swim away and might decide to just lay below the surface - allowing us to swim around them.

The Caves

IMG_9404The caves of Ha'apai are amazing! from a depth of 2m' to the depth of 17m, the area is lined with swim-throughs. Some of the caves are up to 100m in length and terminate in huge rooms. Most caves allow the Freediver to swim up at any time and take a breath.

The Volcano

Tofua island is an active volcano with a lake in the middle.

You have the chance to Freedive the clear lake after a long trek up and down the edge of the crater. We will camp on the Island and spend a day exploring the volcano.
