Tonga is one of the only places on earth where you can swim with Humpback whales. On this trip you will have a chance to actually Freedive with those amazing creatures as they play in the warm water off the coast of Tonga.
A few facts about the trip:
Group 2 (11-21/07/2011):
The second trip of this year will be based in Vavau. We will spend 9 night in the Tongan Beach resort (4*) and have 4 full days of Freediving with whales and 4 days to conduct the Strage B course and train.
On this trip we will Freedive the caves, wrecks and other amazing drop-offs that Vavau has to offer.
This trip will include a Stage B course and additional training / Whale freediving days.
We will also have other afternoon activities such as daily yoga sessions, Breathing sessions and nature activities.
For the non-freedivers or people that want to just relax, swim with the whales and explore the island we will be offering other activities that will be added to this page in the next few days.
Humpback whales grow to around 15m in length and are renowned as the whales with the longest pectoral fins. The have a complexed song and communication system that travels extremely long distances and that will vibrate every bone in your body when you swim near them.
The whales migrate to Tonga every year between July and October to give birth and play in the warm tropical water. They exhibit amazing displays of fin and tail slapping along with the famous Breach where they jump clear out of the water!
Tonga allows snorkellers and freedivers to approach the whales and interact with them. The whales will decide weather to come close or swim away and might decide to just lay below the surface - allowing us to swim around them.
Eua is the host of the biggest underwater caves in the South Pacific. They offer approx 45 dives sites with many more to be explored, the closest one being 10 minutes and the furthest one being 2 hours away. On your dives you will see sharks, grooper, turtles, drop-offs, caves and everything else a diver can expect here in the untouched Tongan waters.
The depth of the caves is still unknown but we should be able to explore a few of the more accesible ones with open ceilings and great swim-throughs.
